Vintage WV Drive-In
King Tut Drive-In is a family owned business focusing on serving high-quality food for people on the go. We are located in Beckley, West Virginia, and have been in business as a true drive-in restaurant since the Tutweilers opened it in the early 1940s. In 1955, John McKay purchased it, and it has been in the family ever since. Eating at King Tut, we are proud to say, is both a glimpse into history and like coming home.
Family Owned Since 1955!
Every morning, our crew—many of whom have been working here for several years—comes in early to prepare for the day. We make our own dinner breads, homemade buns, and pies—all of which are baked on the premises using recipes originating from Great Depression era tearooms. This is why you will see such a large menu consisting of many of the same ingredients. We have never been wasteful people, and we take pride in the fresh quality of our food. Our pork BBQ is made on a weekly basis, and our homemade pies are baked for you every morning. Our hot dogs, BBQ, and dessert alike consistently rank at the top for the best eats in Beckley and are served to you by a carhop on an old-fashioned metal tray that hooks to your car window.
We do not take shortcuts with our preparations or ingredients. Our milkshakes are handspun and made from real ice cream, our pies never contain preservatives, and our soups are made from scratch and served seasonally to warm you up during the colder months. We add new items regularly—something John McKay did with stone-baked pizzas in the ’50s when he introduced it to Beckley for the first time.
In late 2004, King Tut was voted one of the “Top 55 Must See” places to visit in WV, and in 2013, WV Living voted us as “The Best Drive-In in West Virginia.”
Whether you’re on your way through town, need takeout for lunch or dinner, or are staying with family or friends, come visit us. We’d love to meet you.
